The Dr. Pulley performance Variator for the GY6 and new sliding rollers have just arrived on U.S. soil.  So, who is Dr. Pulley and why should you care?  Taiwan based Dr. Pulley knows their stuff.  They provide OEM rollers to SYM (Kymco), Taiwan Suzuki, Taiwan Motive (PGO), Great Long River and CFMoto.

The sliding roller weight is a very interesting concept and in theory should work.  The reality remains to be seen.  You can read more about the sliding rollers at the link at the end of this page.

They inform ScootDawg:

And regarding the variator pulley kits we make a lot of modifications such as extending the length & modifying the slope of ramp and we also produce larger scale Ramp Plate to match the over range movable pulley such as in our GY-6 pulley kit otherwise the roller weights might be bited by the front tip of the ramp plate when the roller weights are in their high gear position."

Dawg has installed the variator with very good results.  Top end has increased another 2-3 mph and acceleration is also better.  Torque in the 30-45mph range is greatly improved.
