Diamo
Folks, this one surprised me. I was able to talk with Diamo President Mathu Solo at some length. This guy started in the scooter business selling Geelys on the internet. Let me tell you though that these scooters are not just rebranded Chinese junk. For instance, the flagship Diamo Velux sports a SYM (Kymco) Taiwanese 150cc GY6 with a ceramic cylinder for increased durability. Diamo shops the world for the right parts for their scooters and has them assembled in China under strict quality control. They just introduced 250cc versions of the Velux and Tracer. Fit and finish on these scooters is quite good. Mathu tells me they have about 300 dealers in the U.S. Diamo is quite adament selling the scooters only through dealers so that initial set-up doesn't get screwed up. I think that you can tell something about the way a company operates just by seeing how well the display is designed. The Diamo exhibit was well thought out. I really enjoyed this booth. Mathu enthusiastically agreed to futher interviews with Dawg.
